Natick, Massachusetts is a picturesque, suburban community, which was established in 1651 by John Eliot, a Puritan missionary who settled the land with “Praying Indians”. Natick was settled with land granted by the General Court and was part of the Dedham Grant. From its early days as an agricultural community, Natick grew into an industrial center complete with gristmills and sawmills. In 1827, the first shoe manufacturing factory was established and shoemaking soon became Natick’s largest industry, drawing workers from Nova Scotia, England, Italy and Ireland.  Natick was a shoe producing “powerhouse” by the late 1800s, the third largest in the nation. Another notable historical fact is that Natick housed H. Harwood and Sons, which was the first company to develop the figure eight stitching for baseballs. Today, Natick is a blend of the old and the new. Many of the existing older homes have experienced a renaissance and there is much new construction in town from town homes to large and elegant homes.
